LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The San Jose State women's tennis team snapped a six-match losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Cal State L.A. on April 9 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Sandra Florea earned wins in both singles and doubles to help the Spartans in the narrow win.
Florea defeated Joyce Librando at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0 and paired up with Sabastiani Leon Chao in doubles to beat Christie Lau and Larn McShane 8-3.
"Sandra's play at the lower end of our lineup was clutch today," said San Jose State's head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "She was a big part of an important win for our team."
Olivia Marshall and Emily Prescott also picked a win in doubles. They took down Librando and Jillian Sangria at No.3, 8-6.
Chau Truong improved to 10-5 in singles this season and became the team's first to reach double-digit wins in 2011 with her defeat of Linda Majzlikova 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Anna Guzman returned to the Spartans' singles lineup after missing the previous three matches due to illness and beat Charlotte Spassoff 6-3, 6-1.
"We needed to stop this losing skid, and it felt great to come out on top in today's match," said Nguyen-Church. "I'm proud of the way the team battled on the court."
San Jose State returns home on April 13 to face the University of San Francisco at the Spartan Tennis Complex. It will be senior day and the Spartans' final home match of 2011.
