Spartans Fall To Montana State, 5-2

BOISE, Idaho -- The San Jose State women's tennis team was defeated by Montana State, 5-2 on April 1 in Boise, Idaho.

The Spartans got wins in singles from Sabastiani Leon Chao at No. 1 and Chau Truong at No. 3.

Leon Chao beat Charlotta Hjalmarsson  in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-2 while Truong gutted out a close second set against Paulina Lopez Trevino for the win 6-1, 7-6(5).

"Sabi and Chau have both been working really hard on their game in the past few weeks," said Spartans' head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. They are strong finishers and it showed today in their wins.

Sophomore Christine Nguyen made her first career appearance in a dual match for the Spartans. Nguyen faced the Bobcats' Wena Tsan at No. 2 singles and was defeated 6-0, 6-2.

Sandra Florea split the first two sets with Montana State's Lucy Fairbotham at 6-4 a piece, but fell short in the deciding set and match 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

"Today was another close match that I think could have gone either way," said Nguyen-Church. "We have some players on the team that need to step up in order to get us over the hump and win more matches."
