Denver, Colo. –San Jose State University’s Julianna Bacelar was named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 25-31.
A sophomore from Goiania, Brazil (Ventura College), Bacelar went 5-0 in singles and doubles over three days of conference match competition at Texas State. She helped San Jose State to a season-best six-match winning streak. The Spartans now are 13-4 and 5-0 in the WAC.
Against Seattle U, Bacelar won in straight sets against Corrine Wurden in the No. 4 singles, defeating her 6-0, 6-1. Bacelar partnered with Chau Truong in No. 2 doubles to defeat the Redhawk duo of Wurden and Kristen James, 8-3. In singles against UT Arlington, Bacelar won 6-2, 6-0. To wrap up the week against Texas State, Baclear fended off Rachel Baldree, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. She again partnered with Truong to win 8-3 in their No. 3 doubles match.
For 2012-13, Bacelar has a 26-5 singles win-loss record and a 20-7 mark in doubles. Bacelar’s 46 total victories are the most by a Spartan in a single season.
