San José State’s women’s tennis team plays its first Mountain West matches of the season when it visits UNLV and San Diego State this weekend.

The Rebels (18-0, 2-0 MW) enter the weekend with a No. 52 ranking and an undefeated record this season, setting a new school record for consecutive wins in a season. All but one of UNLV’s opponents this season has scored two points or less, with last week’s 4-3 win over Hawai’i the only exception.

Carol Zi Yang, the 69th-ranked singles player in the country, owns a 16-1 record this season. She has gone 10-1 at the top spot and 6-0 at No. 2. Paola Artiga (18-0), Anna Bogoslavets (15-0), Aiwen Zhu (13-2) and Iren Kotseva (10-1) join Yang as Rebels to hit the 10-win plateau this season. In doubles, Yang and Zhu form the No. 76-ranked tandem in the country and have posted an 11-2 mark thus far. The Rebels’ other regular duo of Artiga nad Kotseva own a 16-1 record.

San Diego State brings a 6-11 overall record into Sunday’s matchup. Its first conference match also takes place Friday, when it hosts Nevada. The Aztecs showed an ability to rise to the occasion by pulling off a 5-2 win over No. 48 Minnesota on March 14. Isabella Hoorn leads the Aztecs with an 8-7 dual match singles record. No player has more than one win at the top singles spot. In doubles, Kennedy Davis and Paola Diazde Regules lead the team with a 7-6 record.
