Women's Tennis Shuts Out Sonoma State

The San Jose State women’s tennis team defeated Sonoma State, 7-0 at home on March 31 for the teams’ fourth straight win.

In singles, Sanda Hadzisabic, Silvana Dukic, Kerri Kummer, and Anna Guzman all defeated their opponents in straight sets.  Guzman commanded the entire match against Mary Bulich, only dropping one set point in her 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Freshman Kerri Kummer trailed early in the first set against Molly Maguire, but came back to win the first and sweep the second set, winning 7-5, 6-0.

Senior Amber Silverstone also found herself behind after losing the first set 3-6 to Stephanie Luk.  Silverstone then came back to win the second set, and the super tiebreaker for the match, 3-6, 6-2, 10-4.

In doubles, the Spartan pairing of Dukic/Jennifer Williams had a narrow victory over Dana Carollo, and Haley Hickock, 9-8 (7-0).  Guzman and sophomore Olivia Marshall defeated Bulich and Stephanie Hoffmire, 8-4, to seal the team point for the Spartans in doubles play.

“I’m very happy with our team right now, and how our scores continue to improve every match,” said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church
