San Jose, Calif. --- For the third time this season, the San Jose women’s tennis team is nationally ranked. In the March 26 Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings (ITA), the Spartans are ranked 73rd in the NCAA Division I poll.
San Jose State (10-4, 2-0 WAC) went 2-0 in the WAC Five-Way, held at the Spartan Tennis Complex, defeating New Mexico State 6-1 on March 20 and Louisiana Tech 5-2 on March 22. The Spartans first entered the national rankings on February 26 at #64 and were #66 in the March 5 rankings.
Individually, sophomore Klaudia Boczova is ranked #44 in singles. Boczova first became ranked at #58 in the February 12 rankings after defeating #26 Katie Le of Santa Clara. Boczova, 8-3 in singles playing in the number-one position, was ranked as high as #40 this season.
Julianna Bacelar also is having an outstanding season with a school-record 23 singles victories this season and a 13-1 record in dual meets playing either in the #4 or #5 position.
The Spartans travel to San Marcos, Texas to compete in three Western Athletic Conference dual matches starting Friday, March 29 through Sunday, March 31.
On Friday, San Jose State goes head-to-head against Seattle U. (4-10, 0-3 WAC). The match begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Texas State Tennis Complex. The Spartans complete the weekend facing UT Arlington (2-8, 1-1 WAC) on Saturday, March 30, and host Texas State (6-5, 3-1 WAC), Sunday, March 31.
