Sophomore Anna Guzman put up two consecutive 6-0 set victories to sweep Joyce Librando in the number five singles position. Following the match Guzman said, “I’m very satisfied with how I was able to stay focused during the match today. Most of my shots worked out well, and I felt good out on the court.”
Spartan Junior Megan Kummer played in her first division I dual match of her career, defeating Crystal Lam, 6-0 6-1. Megan, older sister and teammate of freshman Kerri Kummer, is a junior college transfer from
“Unlike in junior college, I felt like I was playing to win for the team and not for myself. I was really happy with my serve today, and that I was able to play well through the entire match to help us win.”
Amber Silverstone and Olivia Marshall each won, 6-0, 6-1 in the top two singles positions for the Spartans.
After winning the first set 6-2, senior Silvana Dukic shut out Adriana Espinosa for a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
In Doubles, the Spartan duo of Jennifer Williams and Sanda Hadzisabic shut out Lam and Librando, 8-0, while the other pairings of Silverstone/K. Kummer and Marshall/Guzman each won, 8-2.
Head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church said, “I think our team mentally and physically was able to regroup after four days off. Our girls set a positive tone for this weekend with the way they played in today’s win.”
