SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State earned its fifth win of the season with a 5-2 victory over the University of Northern Colorado at the Spartan Tennis Complex on March 15.
The Spartans got one match point by taking two out of three in the doubles competition, and then won four matches in singles play.
Seniors Anna Guzman and Olivia Marshall both won in straight-sets for San Jose State.
Guzman moved to a team-best 7-1 in singles with her win over Stephanie Catlin 7-5, 6-1, and Marshall came out on top for the second straight home match after beating Elizabeth Tapia 6-1, 6-4.
"My confidence is finally starting to come around and I've been working hard on my game lately," said Marshall following the match.
Sandra Florea split the first two sets with the Grizzlies' Lexi Filliol, but dominated the super-tiebreaker to take the match 6-2, 3-6, 10-2.
Sabastiani Leon Chao was also a straight-set winner for the Spartans at number-one singles.
"I'm proud of the way we played out every point today against a tough matchup and won it," said San Jose State head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "I feel like our team is making some good progress as we move into the central part of our schedule."
This match was the first of four matches in a row that the Spartans have at the Spartan Tennis Complex. Next up, they will take on their first Western Athletic Conference foe of 2011, Nevada, this Sunday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m.
