SAN JOSE, Calif.---The San Jose State women's tennis team lost, 6-1 to Marquette University at home this Sunday, March 14.
Kerri Kummer defeated Olga Fischer, 6-3, 7-6 (4), in number-two singles to secure the Spartans' only point on the afternoon.
"I was able stay positive throughout the match, and I ended points at the net which made for a short tie breaker," said Kummer following the match.
Chau Truong battled with Kelly Barry through their match, but fell short in the first two sets, 6-4, 6-4
The rest of the singles for San Jose State: Olivia Marshall, Chau Truong, Anna Guzman, Sandra Florea, and Jennifer Williams all lost in straight sets.
In doubles, Truong and Guzman came up with an 8-5 win over Maggie Wilson and Olga Fischer in the number-two position. San Jose State was unable to win any other matches in doubles competition against Marquette.
"We came into this match knowing it was going to be tough," said San Jose State head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "This was a breakthrough match for Kerri because she's fallen short in so many close matches this year, and today she pulled out the win."
After the loss, San Jose State drops to 5-4, 0-1 WAC on the season. Next up, the Spartans host Northern Iowa this Tuesday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m.
