Tennis Falls to Gonzaga, 7-0

 

The San Jose State women’s tennis team fell to Gonzaga University. 7-0. on March 12 in the first of three matches in Palm Springs, California

Freshman Kerri Kummer split the first two sets against opponent Sophie Lantta and then went on to lose in a super tiebreaker for the match 6-4, 4-6, 12-10.

 Senior Silvana Dukic and sophomore Anna Guzman also played in close matches, forcing second-set tiebreakers where they both came up short. Dukic and Guzman, both down 7-6 at the end of set number two, lost their matches 6-0, 7-6 (1) and 6-4, 7-6 (3), respectively.   

The remaining San Jose State singles players of: Amber Silverstone, Olivia Marshall, and Jennifer Williams were defeated in straight sets.

“Windy conditions made it tough today, and, as the day went on, our players were able to adjust.  It was a disappointing loss, but I feel like our team played hard, and tomorrow we will be ready to play again,” said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church.

The Spartan pairing of Silvana Dukic and Jennifer Williams put up the best score of the day for the Spartans in doubles, losing 8-6.  Amber Silverstone and Olivia Marshall were shut out in number-one doubles, 8-0, and the duo of Kerri Kummer and Anna Guzman were downed, 8-5.

San Jose State plays again on March 13 at 1 p.m. against Sacred Heart University (3-1).
