“Today our team played really well, and I’m very pleased with the way the team carried themselves in the match,” Said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church.
In doubles, the pairing of Kerri Kummer and Anna Guzman shutout Sara Mijwel and Ashley Thorneycroft 8-0. “Kerri and Anna have the best chemistry together, and their positive energy makes them a great doubles team,” said Nguyen-Church.
The Spartan duo of Amber Silverstone and Olivia Marshall were also successful with an 8-3 victory over Nefeli Diamanti and Kaydee Graham.
Later in singles, Anna Guzman was down 3-0 in the early stages of the first set, but battled her way back to win the set 7-6(11-8). Guzman then proceeded to command her opponent Kaydee Graham in the second set, and won the match, 7-6(11) 6-1
“Being able to come back from 3-0 in the first set was huge for Anna. Then after fighting really hard in the first set, she was able to settle down and play her own game in the second. I’m very proud of the way she handled herself today,” said Nguyen-Church.
