Two Matches In Two Days for Women's Tennis

The San Jose State women’s tennis team will play two home matches in two days starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday, March 7 against Cal State Bakersfield.  That match will be followed by a dual with Southern Utah on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.

            Against Cal State Bakersfield on February 2 the Spartans were victorious 7-0, as all singles matches were won in straight sets.  Senior Amber Silverstone took down her opponent Kirsty Jenkins, 6-0 6-3 while freshman Kerri Kummer shut out Nefeli Diamanti, 6-0 6-0. 

            Since the teams’ meeting on February 2 Cal State Bakersfield has gone 1-1 with a win against Siena College 5-2, and a loss to UC Riverside 2-5. 

            Following the match on March 7 the San Jose State women’s tennis team will host a barbeque at the Spartan Tennis Courts where all fans will be welcome to join.

            San Jose State will then square off with Southern Utah (2-0) on Sunday March 8 at 10 a.m.  For the Thunderbirds, the match against San Jose State will be the teams’ third dual match in three days as they wrap up their current California road trip.  On the season Southern Utah has won against Dixie State 9-0, and Mesa State 5-4.

The Spartans (3-3) are coming off of two straight losses to UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara, and will hope to improve their 1-1 home record this weekend.
