Spartans Fall To UC Davis 4-3

San Jose, Calif. --- In a close non-conference dual match against UC Davis, San Jose State University swept doubles competition but fell short 4-3 against the Aggies.

"We did a really good job in the doubles," said head coach Sylvain Malroux about the team's performance. "Davis is a tough team and they are definitely a challenge and they make you play. We need to earn it and hopefully this match will make us better and tougher for the next time we come out here."

The Spartans (7-4) opened the match sweeping the three doubles contests. San Jose State's Jessica Willett and Klaudia Boczova defeated UC Davis's duo of Nicole Koehly and Layla Sanders 8-3.

Chau Truong and her partner Julianna Bacelar sealed the win for the Spartans after defeating Megan Heneghan and Melissa Kobayakawa, 8-4, and Sabastiani Leon Chao and Erica Medlin won their doubles match as well winning, 8-6.

In singles match play, Bacelar and Truong each came away with a win in straight sets against UC Davis.

Bacelar defeated Ellie Edles of UC Davis 6-0, 6-1 and contributed the first point for San Jose State in singles play.

Truong contributed the second singles point for the Spartans as she defeated UC Davis's Lauren Curry 6-3, 6-1 giving San Jose State a 3-1 lead.

The Spartans' number-one singles player Klaudia Boczova was forced to retire due to injury after dropping the first set to Megan Henegan, 7-5.

The four-plus hour match came down to the third set of number-two singles between Leon Chao of San Jose State and Layla Sanders of UC Davis. Sanders captured the set, 6-4, for a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win.
