Spartans Go For Third Straight

The San Jose State women’s tennis team (3-3) hit the road to play a doubleheader against the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (5-2) and the Grambling State Tigers (3-5) on Friday, March 2.

San Jose State record: 3-3, 0-0 WAC. The Spartans have a two game winning streak after beating USF, 4-3, and Sonoma State 7-0. San Jose State is 2-1 this season on the road.

Louisiana Tech record: 5-2, 0-0 WAC. The Lady Techsters are a perfect 3-0 at home this season. Their most recent win came against Texas Pan American. Playing out of the 4th position, Russia native, junior Alena Erofeyeva is undefeated, 7-0, in singles dual match competition this season.

Grambling State record: 3-5, 0-1 SWAC before their February 29 match against Nicholls State. The Tigers come into this week’s play with two wins against Southern University and Mississippi Valley State, both on Saturday, February 25. Junior Laura Rodriguez leads the Tigers with a 6-1 singles dual match record playing from the No. 1 position.

San Jose State – Louisiana Tech Match-up: This is the first conference match of the season for both teams. The Lady Techsters took the last meeting between the teams, 5-2, on April 10, 2010 in Louisiana. Both teams have a familiar foe in the Grambling State Tigers this season. Louisiana Tech was scheduled to play a doubleheader against the Tigers on January 24 earlier this season. The first match Louisiana Tech took, 6-1, and the second match was postponed due to rain and will be made up at a later date.

Freshman Leaders:  Erica Medlin and Isadora Busch lead the Spartans with four singles dual match victories this year. Medlin contributed three doubles victories, and Busch has two.

Change It Up: San Jose State’s first-year head coach Sylvain Malroux changed his doubles pairings three times in the first four matches. Sandra Florea/Jessica Willett and Medlin/Sabastiani Leon Chao are the Spartan duos to tally more than one win in dual doubles play.

Doubles Wins: San Jose State is a perfect 3-0 this season when taking the dual doubles point in a match.

Doubleheaders: In the last six seasons San Jose State has played in seven doubleheaders holding a 7-7 record.
