Women's Tennis Rebounds At CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.----On a rainy February 26, the San Jose State women's tennis team managed a 4-1 victory over Cal State Bakersfield in the second of a three-match road trip for the Spartans.

With doubles action cut because of rain, Sandra Florea went right to work in singles against Gabriela Horton. Florea commanded the first set, and was perfect in the second to take the match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

Kerri Kummer and Chau Truong also tasted straight set victory for San Jose State. Kummer took down Nefeli Diamanti, 6-1, 6-4 while Truong beat Ashlee Thornycroft, 6-3, 6-1.

Anna Guzman prevailed in a second set tiebreaker against Julian Mannix to take the match in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Olivia Marshall dropped her match in the number one singles position for the Spartans to Veronica Dimas, 6-1, 6-3.

"It was a frustrating day with the weather, but our ladies were ready to compete," said head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "They did a good job being patient with the weather conditions and their opponents."

San Jose State moves to 4-1 this season and will square off against UC Davis to complete the road trip at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2.
