SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's women's tennis team returns to the courts after a 12-day hiatus when it visits the University of San Diego on Saturday.
The Spartans (5-4, 0-0 MW) are riding a two-match win streak after topping UC Santa Barbara (6-1) and Cal Poly (4-1) last weekend.
Sybille Gauvain went 2-0 on the weekend after defeating Santa Barbara's Jaimee Gilbertson (7-5, 6-3) and Cal Poly's Louise Oxvenad (6-2, 6-1) in straight sets. For her efforts, Gauvain was named the Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Feb. 11-17.
Malin Cubukcu also went 2-0 on the weekend playing at the No. 5 singles spot, moving her win streak to seven consecutive matches. The freshman's last singles loss came on Jan. 18, when she dropped a three-set match to then-No. 27 Tulsa's Renata Kuricova at the No. 6 spot.
Saturday's match marks the end of a span of six consecutive road matches for the Spartans, who host Southern Utah on March 10.
