SAN LOUIS OBISPO, Calif.----Kerri Kummer and Chau Truong both forced and lost first set tie breakers in singles against Cal Poly on Friday, and that was as close to a set win as San Jose State got in the match. The Spartans were shutout 7-0 by Cal Poly in the match, and all six singles competitions ended in straight sets.
Kummer lost that first set tiebreak to Steffi Wong, 7-6 (5), and then fell in the second set, 6-3. Truong nearly edged Diane Fillip in the first set, 7-6 (8), but also went on to lose, 6-3 in the second.
Sandra Florea for San Jose State was the next stiffest singles competitor, who dropped her match against Jocelyn Davis, 6-4, 6-2.
Though San Jose State did not earn a point in doubles, the Spartan duo of Olivia Marshall and Jennifer Williams were able to pull out a win against Jocelyn Davis and Alexa Lee, 8-4.
"Cal Poly is a great team with great depth all throughout the lineup," said San Jose State head coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "Despite this loss, I feel like our girls competed well and gave it all their effort on the court."
San Jose State will look to rebound tomorrow in their match at Cal State Bakersfield whom they have already beaten once this season, 4-3 (1/29). The match is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
