Tennis Stays Hot Against Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.---The San Jose State women's tennis team made it three straight wins with their convincing, 7-2, victory over Sonoma State on February 18.

     San Jose State swept the doubles competition to begin the match. None of the three Spartan duos allowed more than three games to their opponents during the matches.

     Later in singles for San Jose State, Sandra Florea had a break out match where she defeated Stephanie Hoffmire, 6-2, 6-0, for her first regular season singles win.

     Chau Truong found herself down 4-3 in the first set, but then rallied to win nine consecutive games to defeat Jeanette Peck, 6-3, 6-0.

     Anna Guzman won, 6-0, 6-2 against Molly Maguire; making her 3-0 in 2010 singles, with three straight-set wins.

     After losing the first set, Kerri Kummer fought back to take a second set tie breaker, and a deciding match tie breaker, to defeat Haley Hickock, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 10-6.

     Olivia Marshall in the number-one singles position, dropped her match in straight sets against Stephanie Luk, 6-3, 6-4. Jennifer Williams in the sixth position, also lost in straight sets to Jessica Harris, 6-3, 6-2.

     "It made me proud to see our team come out with a great attitude," said San Jose State coach Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church. "The middle of our lineup stayed hot and that pushed us to victory today."
