The San Jose State women’s tennis team will resume action tomorrow, February 19 at 2 p.m. against bay area rival Santa Clara (2-5). With the postponement of the Spartans’ February 17 match against Sonoma State, the team will be eager to get back onto the court.
San Jose State is off to a 2-0 start with 7-0 victories over both Cal State Bakersfield, and UC Santa Cruz. Freshman Kerri Kummer proved to be a key factor in the Spartans’ first two victories.
Kummer in the first match on February 1, shut out her opponent in straight sets 6-0 6-0. She then followed with another straight set, 6-1 6-1 victory in her singles matchup against UC Santa Cruz.
In doubles, the San Jose State pairing of Amber Silverstone and Silvana Dukic showed strong mental toughness against UC Santa Cruz to pull out an 8-7 (7-3) tiebreak victory.
On the other side of the net, Santa Clara started their season off with a win against UC Santa Cruz. Since then, they’ve dropped five consecutive matches before a win in their most recent match against Northern Arizona.
