The San Jose State women’s tennis team (1-3) will take the short drive up the coast to play the USF Dons (1-2) on Friday, February 17.
San Jose State record: 1-3. The Spartans are coming off of their first road loss of the year to #46 Cal Poly, 5-2. San Jose State has dropped three in a row after their season opening victory against Cal State Bakersfield.
University of San Francisco record: 1-2. The Dons will host the Spartans in San Francisco’s first home match of season. Their lone victory was in the season opener against UC Santa Cruz, 7-0, played in San Luis Obispo.
Match-up: This is the second consecutive year that the Dons and Spartans will play each other in a regular season match. Last year, the Dons took the match played in San Jose, 7-0. Both teams have played the Cal Poly Mustangs. San Jose State lost, 5-2, on February 11, and the Dons also lost, 7-0, on January 29.
Freshman Leaders: Erica Medlin leads the Spartans with three singles dual match victories this year. Fellow freshman Isadora Busch is next with two dual match wins on the season to date. Each player has also contributed a doubles victory accounting for half of the team’s four doubles dual match wins so far.
Change It Up: San Jose State’s first-year head coach Sylvain Malroux has changed his doubles pairings three times in the first four matches. Sandra Florea and Jessica Willett are the only Spartan duo to tally more than one win in duel doubles play.
