The San José State University women’s tennis team travels to Southern California to take on a pair of Big West opponents when it visits UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Spartans (3-4) enter the weekend coming off a tough weekend in the Midwest in which they dropped a pair of matches to No. 46 Illinois and No. 47 DePaul. San José State is halfway through a stretch of six consecutive road matches leading up to a March 10 date with Southern Utah at Spartan Courts.
Freshman Malin Cubukcu leads the Spartans with a 5-2 record out of the No. 6 singles spot and has won five consecutive matches since starting the spring 0-2.

The Gauchos carry a two-match win streak into the weekend after beating UNLV and Saint Mary’s at home. Freshman Lou Adler holds a 3-2 singles record on the season out of the top spot in the lineup and is ranked No. 93 in the country. Jaimee Gilbertson and Natalia Da Silveira have each posted 4-1 singles records and split time between the Nos. 2-4 spots.
The Spartans defeated UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, last season at Spartans Courts.

Cal Poly is coming off losses to Fresno State and Saint Mary’s, and will host Loyola Marymount on Saturday. Last season, San José State topped the Mustangs 4-3 behind doubles wins from Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett and Marie Klocker and Justine Deleval.
