DENVER -San Jose State's Klaudia Boczova was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 4-10.
Boczova's conference honor is the second in as many weeks for the sophomore from Bratislava, Slovakia.
She helped the Spartans defeat Santa Clara, 4-3, for the first time in 15 seasons. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Boczova defeated No. 26 Katie Le, 2-6. 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) in the final match, clinching the 4-3 win. She overcame match point in the second set and broke serve trailing 4-5 in the third set to stay alive and give her and her team a chance to win. Her victory is the first time a San Jose State player beat a top-30 ranked player in singles this season. With her win she extended her singles winning streak to six in a row. She also teamed with Chau Truong at No. 2 doubles for the Spartans only doubles victory.
