Tennis Beats Cal Poly, 5-2

San Luis Obispo, Calif. ----  The San Jose State University women's tennis team had five wins in singles play and came away with a 5-2 win in a non-conference dual match against Cal Poly.

Sophomore Klaudia Boczova defeated Louise Oxnevad in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 and now has a five-match winning streak at the number-one singles.

Sophomore Julianna Bacelar, playing at number-five, posted a three-set singles win, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, against Cal Poly's Gabrielle Gatewood for her fifth singles win in a row.

Freshman Jessica Willett, junior Erica Medlin, and senior Chau Truong won in straight-sets for the Spartans (4-2).

In doubles play, the teams of Boczova/ Medlin and Willett/Bacelar both had close matches, but fell short to Cal Poly (2-1), losing 8-7.

"After a disappointing loss yesterday, we have been learning a lot about ourselves," said head coach Sylvain Malroux. "They came back today and did an amazing job correcting some mistakes. We have a lot of talent and when we play hard as we did today, we get great results. As coaches we are very proud of their performances today."

The Spartans play again on February 9 at Santa Clara University in a non-conference match.
