Tennis Heads South For Spring Season Opener

San Jose, Calif. --- The San Jose State University women's tennis team opens its spring season with a pair of dual matches at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, January 20 and Tuesday, January 22, respectively.

UC Irvine (0-1), ranked 68th nationally in the ITA rankings, lost its opener to #4-USC, 7-0. Match play begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Anteater Tennis Stadium on the UC Irvine campus.

San Jose State then concludes its first road trip of the season at Cal State Fullerton (0-0) two days later. The Titans open their season with a pair of dual matches on January 19 against San Diego and San Diego State.

During the fall tournament season, newcomer Julianna Bacelar, a sophomore from Brazil, led the Spartans with a 10-4 singles record. Letterwinners Erica Medlin (9-5), a sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz., senior Chau Truong (8-5) from San Francisco and junior Sebastiani Leon Chao (7-5) also had winning singles records. Truong is two victories away from 100 overall wins at San Jose State.

San Jose State's first home match of the season is Saturday, January 26, hosting UTEP, at 12:00 p.m. (PST) on the Spartan Courts.
