Women's Tennis Opens Season With Weekend Doubleheader

The San José State University women's tennis team kicks off the 2015 dual match slate with a pair of tough tests when it visits No. 19 Oklahoma State and No. 27 Tulsa this Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The Spartans return six players from last year's squad that finished 12-14 overall and reached the Mountain West quarterfinals.

The Spartans open the season in Stillwater, Okla., against 19th-ranked Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls finished 16-9 overall in 2014, including an impressive 6-1 record at home, and feature a pair of ranked singles players in No. 10 Viktoriya Lushkova and No. 53 Katarina Adamovic, and the 5th-ranked doubles pair of Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente.

San José State's weekend doesn't get any easier, as the Spartans visit 27th ranked Tulsa on the backend of a weekend doubleheader. The Golden Hurricane are also coming off a successful season in which it went 17-6 overall and posted an 8-1 mark in home matches. Sophomore Marcelina Chichon is the lone Golden Hurricane member to grace the preseason rankings, checking in as the 70th-ranked singles player in the country.

Tulsa defeated San José State, 4-0, last season at Spartan Courts.
