SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's women's tennis team put together another strong day Saturday, winning eight of 10 matches on the second day of the San José State Invitational.
A day after splitting six singles matches with Santa Clara, the Spartans opened the day by taking six of seven matches from the Broncos. Marie Klocker, Julianna Bacelar, Abbie Pahz, Malin Cubukcu, Jessica Willett and Justine Deleval all picked up victories for the Spartans, with Gaelle Rey falling in three sets after winning both her matches Friday.
"I think today was a great match," said head coach Sylvain Malroux. "The things that we talked about yesterday that we needed to improve, we did really well today. They fought hard."
In the afternoon, San José State won a pair of doubles matches against San Francisco, with the tandems of Julianna Bacelar and Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey and Malin Cubukcu notching wins for the Spartans.
"There are still a few things we need to work on to close the fall season, but there's been a lot of improvement," Malroux said. "I think they are getting stronger physically, and mentally they're getting better. Overall, I'm very pleased with the way they're playing."
The Spartans close out the fall season Sunday when they take on the Dons in singles at 9:30 a.m. and Santa Clara in doubles at 12:30 p.m.
