SAN DIEGO – After a pair of losses to nationally-ranked opponents, San José State’s women’s tennis team got back in the win column with a 4-3 victory over San Diego State on Sunday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center.
San José State improved to 9-7 on the season and notched its first conference win behind a doubles win and some strong singles play at the top of the lineup.
Marie Klocker teamed with Sybille Gauvain atop the doubles lineup for the first time this season and grabbed a 6-2 win. The duo of Miyo Kobayashi and Marine Dans followed up with a 7-5 win over Tami Nguyen and Taylor Lederman to wrap up the doubles point.
Klocker met Nguyen in singles and dispatched her by a 6-4, 6-2 score. Gauvain sandwiched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jana Buth between two San Diego State points, but Miyo Kobayashi wrapped up the San José State victory with a straight-set win at No. 5 – her seventh consecutive singles win.
San José State wraps up its five-match road swing with a visit to Long Beach State on Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 a.m.
