Feb. 11, 2018

Fullerton, Calif. -- Despite Sybille Gauvain winning a straight-set singles match at #1 for San Jose State University, the Spartans lost to host Cal State Fullerton, 4-1, in a non-conference match at the Fullerton Invite.

The Titans won doubles matches at #1 and #2 for a 1-0 lead before the six singles matches.

Gauvain tied the score, 1-1, after she defeated Cal State Fullerton's Sarah Nuno, 6-0, 6-2. Gauvain improved her singles record to 9-6 on the season.

"We will have some new doubles teams for our next match. I'm excited to see what they will be and how they play," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka after the Spartans lost the doubles point for the second match in a row.

"Sybille started us off with some good momentum in singles, but we were not able to capitalize on it."

San Jose State's next opponent is University of San Francisco (1-2) in a non-conference match, Friday, February 16, at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. First serve is at 12:00 p.m. (PT).
