The Spartans will be led by a group of skilled and experienced players in 2016.
After completing one of the most successful playing careers in San José State history, Julianna Bacelar stayed on as a student assistant coach in the fall of 2015 before being elevated to assistant women’s tennis coach in January 2016.
In her three-year career (2012-2015) as a Spartan after transferring from Ventura (Calif.) College, Bacelar racked up 131 total wins – the second most at the time in program history. (Bacelar presently ranks fourth on the school's list for combined singles and doubles victories.) She posted at least 20 singles wins in each of her three seasons and recorded at least 20 victories in both singles and doubles action in two of them. As a sophomore in 2012-13, Bacelar set the San José State single-season record for most combined singles and doubles wins (54) and the most singles victories (28).
Bacelar was a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, two-time All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honoree, and San Jose State Scholar-Athlete Award winner. She was also named to the 2013 Academic All-WAC and 2014 and 2015 Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award teams.
Bacelar graduated from San José State with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management in December 2015. She is in her second year pursuing a master's degree in business administration.
