Women's Tennis Sets Several New Academic Marks

The ITA recognized the Spartans for their historic success in the classroom in 2014-15.

AT SAN JOSÉ STATE: Played for the Spartans from 2012-2015 after transferring from Ventura (Calif.) College…Finished her San José State career second on the all-time wins list with 131…Recorded at least 20 wins in both singles and doubles action in two of her three seasons…Posted at least 20 singles wins in all three years as a Spartan…Set the San José State single-season record for most combined singles and doubles wins (54) and most singles victories (28) as a sophomore in 2012-13…A three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, two-time All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honoree, and San Jose State Scholar-Athlete Award winner…Also named to the 2013 Academic All-WAC and 2014 and 2015 Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award teams.

2014-15: Recorded a 20-14 overall mark in singles action and a 20-11 record in doubles action…Tied for second on the team with 10 dual match doubles wins…Finished third with 12 singles victories on the spring…Played primarily at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles, going 7-6 and 8-7, respectively…Won six consecutive singles matches from March 27 to April 24, helping the Spartans go 6-0 over that span…One of two players to win both her matches in San José State’s 4-1 win over Utah State in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Mountain West Championship…Named an ITA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient for a third consecutive season…Also earned Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award honors.

2013-14: Posted a 37-25 record, playing primarily at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles…Was one of the Spartans' most consistent singles players in dual match play, turning in a 13-8 record in the spring…Won five of her last six singles matches to close the season…Teamed with Jessica Willett in mid-February to tally a 10-6 doubles record the rest of the season, marking the only Spartans tandem to reach the double-digit wins mark in dual match play…Earned Academic All-Mountain West, Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award and ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

2012-13: A first-team All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) doubles and second-team All-WAC honoree…Led the Spartans with the most singles (28) and doubles (26) wins for the 2012-13 season…Went 17-2 in dual match play and went 6-1 in conference dual match play while at the No. 5 position in singles…Won nine straight singles dual matches while playing in either the No. 4 or No. 5 position…Had a doubles dual match record of 14-2 and went 6-0 in conference play with Chau Truong…Won 13 straight doubles matches at the No. 3 position with Truong…Went 3-0 in doubles and 2-1 in singles at the 2013 WAC Championship.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Number-one ranked singles player and was one-half of the top doubles tandem in her lone season at Ventura College (Coach Nelson Emery)…Helped Ventura College to a perfect 19-0 record and 2012 California Community College championship…Was the singles champion and was one-half of the championship doubles tandem…Became the fifth player in championships history to win the singles championship and add the doubles crown in the same season…Singles champion at the prestigious Ojai and Southern California in-season tournaments…Just the second player from 1998 to 2012 to capture the Ojai, Southern California and California Community College single championships in the same year.
