Swimming & Diving Earns Team Academic Award

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The San Jose State University women’s swimming and diving program was recognized last month by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for its academic achievements during the 2008 spring semester.

San Jose State was one of 81 NCAA Division I women’s programs nationally, to maintain a grade point average over 3.0, at 3.029.

Yale, coached by Frank Keefe, took top honors on the women’s side with a 3.603 team grade point average, just edging San Jose State’s Western Athletic Conference opponent, New Mexico State, at 3.566, and fellow Ivy League school, Dartmouth, at 3.560.

Over head coach Sage Hopkins’ first three years at the helm of the San Jose State program, Spartan swimmers and divers have earned Academic All-WAC distinction an incredible 40 times, and San Jose State University Scholar-Athlete recognition 45 times.
