Trammell Grabs Second WAC Athlete of the Week Award

DENVER — San Jose State's Kirsten Trammell has been named the Verizon WAC Swimmer of the week for the week of Oct. 24-30.
Trammell, a senior from Goodyear, Ariz. (Xavier College Prep), won six events over two meets on Oct. 28-29, swimming some of her top times personally and ranking nationally, as she helped lead the Spartans to a 2-0 weekend with dual meet wins against UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. All of Trammell’s times over the weekend were either all-time personal bests or her best times she’s swum in a dual meet.
Friday against the Banana Slugs in Santa Cruz, Trammell won four events. She was part of two winning relays, the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, the latter of which she was the anchor for. She also turned in victories in the 200 breaststroke and a personal-best 58.67 in the 100 butterfly
Saturday against UC Davis, Trammell won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best 1:03.31. Her time was a pool record for the SJSU Aquatics Center and ranks 25th nationally this season and first in the WAC. Trammell also swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay, which swam a pool record 1:43.16, a time that ranks 16th nationally and first in the WAC. Trammell was also second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:18.70 (second-ranked in the WAC) and sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.95 (seventh-ranked in the WAC).
The award is Trammell’s second of the year after being named WAC Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 10-16. She has won both conference awards in the weeks San Jose State was competing since the conference began awarding the Athlete of the Week on Oct. 18.
Nevada's Grace Huang was named the Verizon WAC Diver of the Week for Oct. 24-30 alongside Trammell. Huang, a sophomore from Kaohsiung City, Taiwan (Jhong Jheng HS), was the only competitor to score more than 300 points in the one-meter and three-meter dives against Fresno State this past week. Huang recorded scores of 340.20 and 309.15, respectively, in those events.
