Denver, Colo.-----San Jose State University diver Jessica Holden, a sophomore from Fair Oaks, Calif., was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Diver of the Week for the week of October 6-12.
In her second meet of the season, the Roseville High graduate qualified for the 2011 NCAA Zone Diving Championship meet with a 290.7 score for six dives in the 1-meter event. Her score was a school record exceeding the previous mark of 286.05 set by Amy Kilby during the 2009-10 season.
Holden, a 2009 NCAA Zone Diving Championship meet qualifier, was one of 10 individual event winners for San Jose State (2-1) in the dual meet wins over UC Santa Cruz and Cal State East Bay on October 8.
San Jose State returns to the pool, Friday and Saturday, October 15 & 16, co-hosting the Stanford/San Jose State Invitational, at the Avery Aquatics Center on the Stanford campus. Sessions are noon and 6:00 p.m. on October 15. On October 16, the Spartans will battle the University of Nevada in a dual meet beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Stanford pool as part of the Invitational.
