DeWames Qualifies For U.S. Olympic Trials Again

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – San Jose State swimmer Marisa DeWames posted another 2012 United States Olympic Trials qualifying time finishing among the top 30 in the 100 freestyle at the Santa Clara Grand Prix.
DeWames’ preliminaries time of 57.12 at the George F. Haines International Swim Center Thursday was under the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying time of 57.19. She placed her 28th among 163 finishers in the event. It follows her qualification for the trials in the 50 freestyle earlier this year.
“This has been one of the fastest meets so far in the world this year,” said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins about the Santa Clara Grand Prix, the final competition before the trials, to be held June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Neb.
DeWames and four other San Jose State swimmers now are qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in eight events. Competition at the Santa Clara Grand Prix continues through Sunday.
