The Spartan Splash: Blog 11 - Megan Mills

Megan Mills is one of six freshmen on the 2008-09 San Jose State University women’s swimming and diving roster. The native of Redlands, Calif., primarily swims the distance freestyle events, and currently has the second-fastest times on the team in the 1000 and 1650, and is third-fastest in the 500. She is majoring in journalism.

San Jose State is now 14-1 with a 14-meet winning streak, heading into a meeting this Saturday, January 31, against two-time defending Western Athletic Conference champion Nevada beginning at 11:00 a.m. at The Aquatics Center on campus.

Nevada.

Just hearing that word kicks my adrenaline into effect. Not just mine, but the entire team’s. We’ve been waiting for this Saturday, the day San Jose State takes on the defending WAC champions of Nevada in the dual meet of the season. Some races will be won, some lost. First and second place will be determined by hundredths of seconds. Both teams are fighting for the top position as we head into WAC at the end of February.

We have worked hard over winter break to prepare for these last few dual meets and for wanting to leave our mark in Texas at WAC. With countless practices and endless hours of preparation for these upcoming weeks, the team is geared up and ready to race to try and keep the undefeated streak alive. All we, as a team, can hope to accomplish, are best times and great racing in the pool. If we accomplish those aspects as a team, we have already won amongst ourselves.

As we gear up for this weekend and the remaining meets of the season, we will leave nothing behind and give it our all in the pool. We want to finish this season as exciting and thrilling as when it began in September. This Saturday will be the meet to watch, so come out and support your Spartans!
