San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State University women’s swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins has been presented with the 2007 Marie Samora Award by USA Swimming’s Zone 1-North.
Hopkins, now in his third season in charge of the Spartan program, was named the recipient of the award in appreciation of his outstanding service to the athletes, coaches and volunteers of United States Swimming. He recently finished a two-year term as Chair of Zone 1-North, and has served on the board in various capacities for the past several years. Hopkins remains a member of Pacific Swimming’s Senior Committee.
“Marie Samora was one of the most devoted volunteers to USA Swimming, and I am deeply honored to receive an award in her name,” said Hopkins.
Under Hopkins’ guidance, San Jose State concluded the 2007-08 regular season with a dual meet record of 8-4 following a fourth straight victory to finish the campaign, on Senior Day over Cal State East Bay on Saturday, January 26. The Spartans now begin final preparations for the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Championship, to be held at the Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, February 20-23.
