Spartans Win 7th Straight Against Nevada

Reno, Nev.--- The San Jose State University women's swimming and diving team secured its seventh straight win of the season defeating the University of Nevada, 160-140.

"Nevada pushed us harder than we have been pushed all season." Said head coach Sage Hopkins. "We are very happy with how the team responded. This was the first time many of the swimmers have competed at altitude."

In the 16-event meet, the Spartans (7-1) had nine first place finishes including the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Juniors Darcie Anderson and Ashlyn Acosta finished first in three races each.

Anderson placed first in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke with times of 1:05.99 and 2:21.69, respectively.

Acosta also had an impressive day as she placed first in the 200 Butterfly in 2:05.87 and the 100 Butterfly in 56.42.

Both teammates also competed together in the first place 400 medley relay team.

Other San Jose State first place winners were Amy Friedhoff in the 1000 Free, Erika Harvey 50 Free, and Marisa DeWames in the 100 Free.

"They did a great job of staying of staying tough and racing hard." concluded Hopkins.

The Spartans now travel to Hayward, Calif. on Friday, January 25 for a dual meet against Cal State East Bay. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Cal State East Bay aquatic center.
