Caitlin Macky and Ashley Ladd are two sophomores on the 2008-09 San Jose State University women’s swimming and diving roster. Macky, who swims breaststroke, individual medley and butterfly events, is a 2007 graduate of West Hills High School in San Diego, Calif. An undeclared major, she ranks in the top seven all-time at San Jose State in five events. Ladd, a tri-captain and sprint freestyle specialist, is a 2007 graduate of Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School, and a kinesiology major.
San Jose State is now 12-1 with a 12-meet winning streak in dual competitions on the season, and travels to Hayward, Calif., on Friday, January 16, for an 11-event swimming-only meet beginning at 12:00 p.m. against the host Pioneers of Cal State East Bay.
Blog Entry #9 (Thursday, January 15)
Sophomores Caitlin Macky and Ashley Ladd
Macky-Ladd here again for yet another spectacular blog! If you read our last entry, you’ll be happy to hear that the San Jose State women’s swimming and diving team achieved our 11th and 12th wins last weekend against Fresno State and UC Davis. The competition was fierce, but our team was able to pull together and fight to the end, resulting in a sweet victory. It was the first time San Jose State has defeated UC Davis in over four years.
However, we were back at it again bright (well, dark) and early on Monday morning. As we near the end of our season, we realize that relishing in our success for too long could result in distractions which would deter us from our goal of working hard and finishing top two at this year’s conference meet. We are stringing together many good practices which have allowed us to stay strong both mentally and physically through this, our long month of consecutive meets. So far, we have a record of 12-1, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. It has been a great season thus far, with superb swims and phenomenal team spirit. We enter every meet in a positive state of mind, knowing that we have prepared as best we could.
Speaking of which, this Friday, the Spartan swimmers are going to be back in action against Cal State East Bay in Hayward. The meet is set to start at 12:00 p.m., and should be over relatively quickly due to the short event format. So be sure to be there on time and to bring your Spartan spirit. Hope to see you there!
