Spartan Duo Makes 1-Meter Final At Bruin Invite

 

Los Angeles, Calif. ---- Amy Kilby had another impressive showing, finishing eighth in the 1-meter diving on the second day of the Bruin Diving Invitational.

Out of the 56 divers competing, Kilby finished twelfth in the preliminary round with a score of 242.55 and advanced to the final round were she improved her score to 247.55 for a total of 490.10.  

Teammate Jessica Holden finished in 20th in the preliminary round with her score of 231.45, and proceeded to the final round where she placed 17th with a total of 456.90.

"Amy and Jessica had a hard-fought and very cold day on 1-meter today," said San Jose State diving coach Mark Butcher. "They both made finals and they both improved their standings in the finals."

Both Spartans competed against three 2012 NCAA Championships 1-meter diving entries in the final round. Kilby placed ahead of San Diego State's Anna Steiner, 32nd at last year's NCAA Championships.

Samantha Pickens of Arizona won the 1-Meter diving with her score of 575.95 and Lindsay Lester of Miami took second with a 549.20.

"There is not much else I can ask for from my athletes," stated Butcher. "This has been a tremendous test for the girls, and they have represented the University with grace and pride."

The Spartans conclude diving at the UCLA Invitatitonal, January 13, when they compete in the platform diving preliminaries starting at 9:30 a.m.
