The Spartan Splash: Blog 8 - Macky-Ladd

Ashley Ladd and Caitlin Macky are two sophomores on the 2008-09 San Jose State women’s swimming and diving roster. Ladd, a tri-captain and sprint freestyle specialist, is a 2007 graduate of Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School and a kinesiology major. Macky, who swims breaststroke, individual medley and butterfly events, is a 2007 graduate of West Hills High School in San Diego, Calif. An undeclared major, she ranks in the top seven all-time at San Jose State in five events.

San Jose State, now 10-1 in dual meets on the season, travels to Davis, Calif., this Saturday, January 10, for a double dual beginning at 1:00 p.m. against the host Aggies of UC Davis and Western Athletic Conference rival Fresno State at the Schaal Aquatics Center.

Blog Entry #8 (Friday, January 9)
Sophomores Ashley Ladd and Caitlin Macky

There’s just so much we can talk about, we don’t know where to start! When we were first asked to write a blog together, we were kind of unsure. I mean, Macky-Ladd is a great team in our lane of the pool and outside of the water, but to write a blog? That’s uncharted territory. But we were up for the challenge.

We just got back from our four-day trip down to glorious Southern California. Our first stop was Bakersfield. The weather was tolerable, however, not ideal. We won the meet with many of our girls swimming events they are not used to swimming. Not more than an hour later, we were back on the road. We traveled four more hours down to Irvine, where we could not have asked for more perfect weather. The sun was shining and we were having a blast swimming in more familiar territory, with both of us being from Southern California. We got second-place to Nebraska at the Ayres relay meet on Sunday. On Monday morning, we were rewarded with a very intense workout at the CrossFit Marina gym. Overall, it was a successful weekend, and we were happy to spend it in the perfect location with our teammates.

Now we’re back in San Jose, continuing our winter training. We have double practices every day, along with weights three times a week. It can get a bit tiring at times, but we know it is what needs to be done if we want to do well at our conference meet, which is approaching rapidly. The team is really determined and pumped up to swim fast, which makes us really excited for our upcoming meet against UC Davis and Fresno State. If you want to come cheer the Spartans on and hopefully see us capture a 12th win, then come out to Davis on Saturday!

More from Macky-Ladd next week! Over and out.

Go Spartans!
