Spartans Move To 6-1 With Win At UC San Diego

San Diego, Calif. ----- The #23-nationally ranked San Jose State University women's swimming and diving team completed its four-team, three-days of competition with a 183-109 dual-meet win over UC San Diego and improved its record to 6-1.

"We are very pleased with the performances of the swimmers and divers," said head coach Sage Hopkins, whose team is on a six-meet winning streak. "UCSD is one of the toughest teams we will face in a dual meet all year, and I am very proud of our team effort."

In the 16-event meet, the Spartans had 12 first-place finishes and set six pool records at the Canyonview Pool on the UC San Diego campus. Seniors Marisa DeWames and Amy Kilby and juniors Ashlyn Acosta and Darcie Anderson had two first place finishes each.

DeWames had a tremendous day with pool record first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 51.49 and 1:50.69, respectively.

Acosta finished first in the 100 and 200 butterfly with times of 56.15 and 2:04.25, respectively. Her 100 butterfly time was a pool record.

The 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams also set pool records with their winning performances.

"We have had a tremendous three days of competition with the team improving each day." Hopkins concluded.
