Folsom, Calif.-- The San José State beach volleyball team finished the season on Saturday with duals against Cal Poly and Sacramento State at the Livermore Community Park in Folsom, Calif.
The Spartans fell to the Mustangs, 5-0, in the team's first dual of the day. Four of the five Spartan pairs took their matches to three sets, the closest being Giulia Gávio and Luiza Andrade who won their first set 21-18, but then fell 21-18, 15-13.
In the final dual of 2017, Gávio and Andrade were the only winners over Sacramento State as the Hornets won 4-1. The Spartan pair won in straight sets, 21-9, 21-17. Three other pairs went three sets for SJSU - Allison Meehan and Lyndi Scholl fell 25-23, won 21-15, before dropping the third set 15-11. Nandyala Gama and Julie Sam won the first set 21-16 before losing 21-12 and 15-10. Summer Avery and Jamie Hirai lost 22-20 before winning 22-20 then fell 15-13.
San José State ends the season with a 7-10 record. Meehan and Scholl finished the season with an 8-9 record at the number-one position. Gama and Sam were 5-11 in the number-two spot. Gávio and Andrade were 5-5 in the third position. Avery and Hirai were 2-3 at number four and 3-2 at number five. Julia Golbeck and Kaitlynn Zdroik were 0-4 at number four and 1-3 at number five.
