Moraga, Calif.--The San José State sand volleyball team fell at Saint Mary's College 5-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Despite the loss, the Spartan head coach Aaron Shepardson feels the team is showing improvement with every practice and competition.
"In these matches, we need to go out and give a full effort in every play. We are not as experienced as many of the teams we are playing, but we need to show the improvement we have made the past weeks."
"I give Tyanna and Kiley a lot of credit in the #1 spot," said Shepardson. "They have to play the top players from the other team. Tyanna and Kiley were disappointed with their result but went into the match with the right attitude. I appreciate their enthusiasm and know they will continue to work hard and get better."
"I really liked the way Megan and McKenzie played today. They played pretty hard and had the right mentality in the match. Megan played aggressively at the net and had a forceful block. McKenzie had a determination to play good defense. They never stopped playing hard or lost their focus."
Other Spartan results included Lauren Jacobsen and Cori O'Donoghue falling 21-17, 21-19; Lindsay Skadeland and Brittney Diffine losing 21-14, 21-10; and Sabrina Webb and Felicia Segura falling 21-8, 22-20.
The Spartans return to the court next weekend at CSU Bakersfield where Shepardson started the program. San José State faces CSU Bakersfield on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5, along with USC on Saturday, April 5.
