Stanford, Calif.— The San José State beach volleyball team fell 3-2 at #14 Stanford Wednesday afternoon in a dual at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Spartans are now 3-3 on the season.
The Spartans opened the dual by winning in the fourth and fifth positions. Both matches needed three sets for the wins. Breann Robinson and Summer Avery won 21-13, 11-21, 15-9 in the fifth position, while Luiza Andrade and Thaliana Grajeda won 21-19, 15-21, 15-12 in the fourth spot.
Stanford then won the next three matches to win the dual 3-2. Lyndi Scholl and Nandyala Gama fell 21-15, 21-14 in the top position. Ciara Reistad and Julia Golbeck fell 21-11, 21-12 in the number-two spot. Hayley Sturgeon and Jamie Hirai fell 21-10, 21-14 in the third spot.
The Spartans compete at the Stanford Invitational this weekend. On Saturday, the team faces Arizona State at 8:30 a.m., and Tulane at 11:30 a.m. On Sunday, the Spartans play Boise State at 8:30 a.m., and California at 2:30 p.m.
