Sand Volleyball Opens 2015 Season

Stanford, Calif.--The 2015 San Jose State sand volleyball team opened the season Friday afternoon at the NorCal Invitational against #8 Saint Mary's. The Spartans fell 5-0 but had two close matches.

Jamie Hirai and Allison Meehan played in the number two slot and took Saint Mary's Clare Power and Madi Wilkerson to a third set. After falling 21-14 in set one, the Spartans rallied to win the second set 21-15. The two teams battled in the third set before the Gales won 16-14.

Julie Sam and Breann Robinson also went three sets with Maegan Conroy and Mileva Popovic. The Spartans won the first set 21-15, lost the second 21-15, and battled in the third before falling 15-12.

San Jose State next plays California Saturday at 9 a.m., at the Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium, on courts 3 & 4. The Spartans will also play either Sacramento State or San Francisco at noon.
