San Jose, Calif. - Two all-league performers, Anessa Kaylor and Daisy Conchas, signed a National-Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San José State University softball team, beginning in 2014-15, head coach Peter Turner announced.
"These signees will make instant contributions as freshmen," Turner said. "I know that they are going to mature into solid Division I athletes."
Kaylor is currently a senior at Sheldon High School in Sacramento, Calif. An infielder, she set a Sheldon High School record for doubles in a season during her junior year with 14 and bat .489 with seven home runs and 40 RBI. For her record-setting season, she earned Sacramento River Cats All-City First Team and All-Delta River League honors.
In 2013, Kaylor led her club team, Strike Force 18 Gold, in batting average, home runs and RBI en route to a Premier Girls Fastpitch 18 U Platinum National Championship.
"Anessa is one of the best pure infielders for her class in the state of California," Turner said. "She has a rocket of an arm, great coverage and a good stick."
Conchas is a senior at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High School. As a sophomore in 2012, she earned All-Baseline League honors. The infielder recorded a .428 slugging percentage and drove in 20 runs, batting .286 that season.
Conchas plays club ball for California Lite. In 2012, she helped lead California Lite to a 17th-overall ranking in the U.S. Softball National Club Rankings.
Said Turner, "Daisy is a great all-around athlete who can play multiple positions. She will fill gaps her freshman year that will be left behind by our deep senior class, and will specifically contribute as a catcher."
The Spartans open the 2014 season on February 6th at the Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State.
