McConnell, Aiello Earn All-WAC Honors

Las Cruces, N.M.- Julianne Aiello and Brittany McConnell were named to the second team All-Western Athletic Conference Softball Team Wednesday morning, as selected by the conference's head coaches.

Aiello led the team in hitting during the conference season with a .317 batting average. She had 20 hits and nine runs scored in 21 WAC games started at second base. Overall, she is hitting .336 with 47 hits, 22 runs scored, seven doubles, 15 walks and three stolen bases.

McConnell is hitting .322 this season with 49 hits, 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, eight home runs and 28 walks. She leads the team with a .993 fielding percentage, committing only two errors over 52 games and recording 242 putouts. During WAC games, she hit .230 with 14 hits and did not commit an error in 20 games played. McConnell will finish her Spartan career as one of the top-10 hitters and fielders in San Jose State history.



Also honored at the WAC Tournament banquet Wednesday morning were WAC Players of the Week for the 2010 season. Two San Jose State players were recognized during the season - Jennifer Ames and Kelli Fangonilo.

San Jose State opens play at the 2010 WAC Softball Tournament Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. MDT, against fourth-seed Louisiana Tech. Live stats are available on the San Jose State web site.
