Softball Comeback Falls Short In 4-3 Loss

Las Cruces, N.M.-San Jose State fought to the end, coming back from a 3-1 deficit and sending the game to extra innings, but eventually lost to Fresno State 4-3 in eight innings at the Western Athletic Conference Softball Tournament to end the season.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Spartans fought back with two runs.  Markesha Collins, Michelle Cox and Jessica Garcia each drew walks to start the inning.  The first run scored as Vanessa House singled to left field to score Cox.  The second run scored on an Annica Wolfe single to right field.

Britney Helm, who pinch ran for Breanna Lopez, looked to score what could be the winning run on a Cheryl Freitas fly out to right field.  However, Helm was called for leaving the base too early to end the inning.

The Spartans got a runner on base in the eighth inning as Jessica Garcia singled to center field.  However, a fly out and two strike outs ended the Spartan season.

Amanda Pridmore suffered her second loss of the day after pitching a complete game against the Bulldogs.  She allowed seven hits, four runs, three earned, and one walk while striking out six.  Pridmore finishes the season with an 18-15 record and 201 strikeouts.  She also moved into a tie for second on the San Jose State career strikeout list with 455, tying Sabrina Quintero (1997-2001).

San Jose State finishes the 2012 season with a 28-28 overall record.
