Softball Scores In Seventh To Win 3-2

San Jose—Spartan pitcher Amanda Pridmore struck out seven in her 16th win of the season, and San Jose State scored in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to take a 3-2 win over New Mexico State Friday afternoon in a Western Athletic Conference game at SJSU Field.

Pridmore pitched her 14th complete game of the year as she allowed just five hits and two runs, one earned, in the win. With her seven strikeouts, she is now fifth all-time at San Jose State with 227 strikeouts.

San Jose State scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings for the win. In the fourth, Ursula Lopez hit her third home run of the season to left center field to tie the score at 1-1.

After a 1-2-3 fifth inning, the Spartans loaded the bases. With one out, Julianne Aiello walked, followed by Brittany McConnell who was hit by a pitch. Lopez’s next at bat saw her hit a single to center field to lead the bases. Breanna Lopez then singled to left center to score Aiello. However, after a pitching change, San Jose State lined out to first and grounded out to second to end the threat.

BranDee Garcia reached base in the seventh inning on a throwing error by the Aggie short stop Teresa Conrad and advanced to second on the throw. With one out, Kelli Fangonilo singled to the short stop to put runners on first and second base. Aiello then hit a ball to the Conrad who threw to third for the force of Garcia, but Aggie third baseman Ashley Maroda had the ball pop out of her glove. Garcia scored on the error to give San Jose State the win.

San Jose State is now 32-21 overall and 8-11 in the WAC, while New Mexico State falls to 25-26 overall and 5-14 in the WAC. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. at SJSU Field. The Spartans’ nine seniors will be honored prior to the first game at approximately 11:50 a.m.
