Leading off the bottom of the seventh inning, Lopez took an 0-1 pitch from Aggie pitcher Karysta Donisthorpe over the fence in left field, easily clearing the fence for her eighth home run of the year. The run was all San Jose State needed to pick up the ninth WAC win of the season.
Lopez's eighth home run of the year moved her into a tie for third with former Spartan Brittany McConnell on the San Jose State single season list. Lopez also moved into a tie for third on the San Jose State career home run list with 14, tying former Spartan Sarah Smith.
Michelle Cox made a tremendous impact on the Spartan offense in both games as the team had just four hits in each game. Cox was a perfect 5-for-5 on the day with a walk and three stolen bases. She now has 26 stolen bases on the season and is just four away from the school record of 30 set by Noleana Woodard in 1989.
"Bre came up big for us today, and Cox is getting hot again at the plate," said Spartan head coach Peter Turner. "We are not hitting the ball really well right now not going to win many games by getting just one run in 20 innings. Hopefully this will be behind us as we head to the WAC Tournament. I did tell the team that ending this season with a winning record is a very big positive since we are a very young team."
Five seniors played their final games at SJSU Field on Saturday - Jennifer Ames, Lopez, Amanda Schatz, Lauren Shanks and Alex Stange. All were four or five year member of the Spartan team. The five players were honored after the doubleheader with a ceremony on the Deanna Mauer Memorial Patio.
